We had so much fun on Christmas break. We did lots of things as a family. On Monday, we took the kids to lunch at Applebee's. Our kids have earned several "free kids lunch" cards through the years and we've never taken them. So I promised them we would do it over Christmas break. Our poor deprived children. After we ordered, Kyle was watching the waiter just standing around and he finally said to me, "Mom, he's not cooking our food." It was so cute. Apparently we don't get out to "nice" restaurants like we should....it was a whole new experience for them.
We also saw a couple of movies on the break. The Tale of Desperaux was one we saw as a family. I didn't like it. Sorry, for those of you who did. It was very strange and I don't think any of my children liked it either. Todd and I saw Bedtime Stories with some of my family on Thursday. It was just okay. There were some funny parts, but a little long in the middle for me.
On New Years Eve, we hosted a party at my house and it was so much fun. My sister was here from Las Vegas and my sister-in-law came with her family too. We had a blast and I'm happy to report that all of the cousins made it to the very end, with the exception of one 3-year old, who crashed at around 11:30 pm. We played some very fun games and watched a Brian Reagan DVD. He is a comedian, for those who don't know him and he's very funny!
On Friday Todd took the 3 older kids ice fishing with a guy in our ward. I told him to take the camera and take some pictures of the event, since I wouldn't be there to see the excitement. When he got home, he came home with NO pictures! What is up with that? I asked him about it and he said that no one caught anything, so there was nothing to take a picture of. They were gone for 7 HOURS people! Can't he at least have taken a picture of one of them fishing.....pole in water, sitting on ice, drinking hot chocolate....I don't care what the picture is of......just bring me home a picture!! There's a bit from Brian Reagan on his DVD about the differences between men and women. He tells a story of a guy who goes golfing with a recently divorced friend and when he gets home, his wife asks him how his friend was doing. The guy responds, "It didn't come up." They were golfing for like 10 hours together and it didn't come up.....I don't get it either. Girls would have gotten the story, perhaps shared some tears and hugs, and talked about lots of other things too. Anyways, my point is Todd didn't take any pictures because apparently there was nothing to see! WEIRD, I tell you! (and a little annoying). I would have taken at least ONE picture! The sad part is that all of my sons agreed with Dad. "There was nothing to take a picture of, Mom, unless you wanted us to take a picture of the sign that said, 'Warning: thin ice.'" I would have accepted that!! Oh and by the way, why are you fishing in an area with a sign that says that? I'd sure like to know. :)
On Saturday we went bowling in honor of my nephew's birthday. It was tons of fun too. I do have a few pics from that, which I took, of course. Jacob loved bowling! Sadly, he's never been and he had a blast. The greatest part was that despite the competition between myself, my husband and my brother.....guess who got the top score? My (ailing....okay, not really) MOTHER! Hilarious! And it was revenge enough for me. By the way, I scored a whole 75 and I'm proud of it! In my defense, I haven't been bowling for years......does that count for anything?
A little scowl from Brandon. Actually he had a stomach ache, so he didn't have as much fun. This is Jacob laying on the floor watching the ball roll down the lane. I'm sure it was really clean on that floor too! :-
We had a great break and I wish all of you a Happy New Year!
Now, back to the grind......

Great post... I agree with your boys, all there is to see while ice fishing is just... white... and a hole in the ice.
I think one picture is not to much to ask ...men just don't appreciate the possibility of a good layout in a scrapbook!
don't go see "Seven Pounds" a complete waste of money!
Ha ha I love the part about men and women, One of Ryan's friends will have a baby and I will ask "What did she have?" or "what did they name him/her?" not hard questions and he always said he didn't ask or forgot! geee! I love bowling we should go some time for family night or something!
Sometimes the best vacations are having dad home and hanging out together. Looks like fun!
PS thanks for the laugh about the fishing pictures. (or lack of!)
What an exciting vacation from life. Why is January so boring?
Oh, too true about men and women. You gotta love 'em anyway, though, right? :)
This post had me laughing out loud. Mainly for two things--Will's first cub scout expedition was ice fishing. THEY DIDN'T GET HOME UNTIL 10:30 p.m.!!! (They left early in the morning). I kept trying to find out when they'd be back and someone on the cub committee said it wasn't really a cub scout activity . . . Boy was I mad! No one in our family has gone ice fishing since. Of course there were no pictures of that one! He had fun, though, I think. At least he came back in one piece. The other thing is that I always send my camera to scout camp and overnighters with Jared. He would never take pictures! FINALLY, he got the hang of it. Now I can usually count on about 1 picture a day and I am thankful for that!
