Activities, Concerts, and Recitals! Oh My!

 

Our May pack meeting for cub scouts was spent fishing at a nearby pond.  Here's Jacob with his pole and his smile!  :)  He is such a cutie!

Brandon had another concert for the end of the year.  He had a Saxophone solo, which of course, he rocked!  He always does!  I can't believe I only have 1 more year of Brandon's concerts.  That seems weird to think about...

The Jazz Band was totally awesome!  They sounded great and they've had an amazing teacher, Amber Tuckness.  Way to go you guys!  Only one more year....

 



Brandon ROCKED his solo!!!  (even though the picture is blurry--oh wait, it's probably because he was jamming out to the music).  HA!

 



This concert was also a fundraiser for Cottonwood High School.  So in between songs, they auctioned off a variety of items.  (Brandon is standing, the 2nd from the right.)

 



 

After each concert, we always have to go find Brandon.  The kid always has tons of clean up and other things to get ready for, it seems.  So I went and found Brandon in the band room and made him come out and take a picture with me...Oh yeah, and to greet the family.  :) 

You did great, Brandon!  Way to go!

 



And here is Dallin at his piano recital.  His teacher, Maevonne Whitaker, decided to have her students' Summer concert be performed at The Golden Living Center, which is a home for the elderly.  Everybody did amazing!

Dallin is such an awesome piano player and performer!  He loves it and he's really good at it too.

The Joneses Memorial Day Party

We had a big Jones party on Memorial Day.  It was so much fun.  Everyone was able to be there (except Eric, of course--we missed you son.)  We had the party at Grandpa Jones' house and it was wonderful.

Grandpa Jones has this really cool tree in his backyard, which just happens to be perfect for climbing high!  That's Sierra on the left, Sophie in the middle, Alexis on the right, and Aubrey is at the bottom of the tree..  I was a little nervous about these crazy monkeys!

This is Mike and Shauna's dog, Charlie.  He's a little neurotic (like our Ziggy), so he had to stay in the kennel in the back room.  He's so cute though!!

 



 

Sweet Annie, who is growing up WAY TOO FAST!!  Look how beautiful she is!  (You'd better stay hidden in your bedroom for awhile, so the boys will leave you alone!)

 



 

We celebrated Parker's birthday too.  Malissa made a cute Mario cake!  He turned 4 years old!

It was a very fun and successful party with the Jones family!  The weekend after Memorial day, our little family went up to Grandma Jones' grave and put a few roses on her tombstone.  Roses were her very favorite and these actually came from our own front yard!

 

We love and miss you Grandma Jones! 

 



 

 

It's a good thing we are making memories to last a lifetime!!

 



The Rube Goldberg experiment!

Dallin had an assignment to do a Rube Goldberg experiment.  He and 2 other friends decided that they wanted "the end result" to be able to open up a package of oreos.  

Here is a picture of one of the earlier models.  At first the kids set it up outside, but it was too windy, so they ended up moving it into Dallin's bedroom.  (This is Dallin and Hunter.)

It's hard to explain exactly what the chain of events were, but you can see that it started with a homemade bow and arrow.  It hit a cardboard circle, which caused a ball to fall down the "tongue depressor" track, knocking the wood that tipped over the blue cup (on the top).

(And there's cute little Alexis on the right.  This was when Wendy was in town and Alexis wanted to "help" so I let her use my video camera to film the experiment.)
 



 

As I mentioned before, it got too windy, so they had to move it inside the house.

 



 

Inside Dallin's room...

Inside the blue cup there were 2 marbles.  When the cup was tipped over, the marbles fell out.  The goal was that at least one of them would fall onto the "duck-taped" road underneath.

 



Then the marble would roll down and hit a perfectly situated roll of toilet paper sitting on the top of the Tree Top box...

 



 

The toilet paper would then roll down the box and knock off the apple which was placed at the very end of the box, causing it to drop below into the hanging bowl.  Because the apple was so heavy, it caused the bowl to fall, thus triggering a "pulling" effect on the wooden stick that was attached to the Oreo package, causing the tab on the top to be "ripped" open.

 

Did you get all that?  Yeah, I didn't either.  You can see from the pictures that there other "props" used, and it was quite complicated.  Every piece had to do it's exact part or it wouldn't work.  It was actually quite amazing and after about 500 takes (literally), it finally worked.  Luckily we got it on video, and then we were done.  Dallin worked so hard on this project.  His other 2 friends were there in the beginning a couple of  times when they initially built the project outside, but behind the scenes, in Dallin's room, for days and hours at a time, mostly just Dallin, himself  worked on getting all of the chain of events to occur in one take .  It was pretty impressive!  Way to go Dallin!!  You did it!

 

(We don't have to do another one of these next year, do we?)  Just wondering....  :)

 

 

 

Wendy's visit

Wendy, and AJ and Alexis came down to SLC over Memorial weekend.  It was so fun to see them and have some serious cousin time.  Of course, one of our activities was going to Leatherby's.  That seems to be an obvious choice in the Johnson family.

Spring soccer 2014

Here are a few pictures of Spring soccer 2014!  It's been another successful season.  Way to go kids!

The Spring season is over and the Summer season will start on July 8th, but only for Kyle this time around.  Here we go again!  :)
